Wale is pleasing the music world once again with his third EP of 2018, titled Free Lunch. The jamming 5-track EP is the follow up to Wale’s EP’s It’s Complicated and Self Promotion which released in March and May respectively. This is probably one of my favorite EP’s of the year, with catchy features from both J. Cole and Eric Bellinger. Its crazy how 5 songs can be so much better than some of the albums out right now with 14-20 tracks, but thats the magic we admire Wale for. When its time to get busy lyrically, Wale has never been one to sit back and relax, always going for creative similes with double and triple syllable counts throughout his bars. Free Lunch is no exception and if you’re a fan of really tricky lyrics this is definitely the EP you need in your headphones right now. Wale is a madman, using quicker more synth heavy beats compared to Its Complicated and riding the flow like a surfer with a wave.
Despite this, Wale still has a soulful sound on the song “Right Here”, along with the help of Eric Bellinger its definitely one your girls going to be playing during those late nights post breakup. Probably the hottest song off the EP however seems to be “My Boy” thanks to the current onslaught of features J. Cole has been rolling out over the last few months. Cole just had an appearance on 6LACK’s newest album, East Atlanta Love Letter, which also dropped today, supplying his verse on the song “Pretty Little Fears”. One things for sure, this is one for the iPods folks. Go download the full EP and take a listen to some of the tracks right now below:
