The Bay Area is home to a wide range of backgrounds and music that all accumulates into what we refer to as the “Bay Sound”. This includes the likes of Mac Dre, Nef the Pharoah, Roach Gigz, and Andre Nickatina. However, one of the up and coming creatives coming out of San Bruno, CA is the young spitter known as Jack Rox. This dude has some serious responsibility carry the weight of such an iconic place on his shoulders, but he’s doing so in incredible fashion.

Jack has been gaining an organic following online through the release of several music videos and has a new album titled Treading Water currently under works. He has collaborated with several big names in the Bay Area music scene including Berner, Mozzy, and Lil Yee and the hot new artist seems to constantly be cooking up some fresh slapping tracks for the streets. Recently we were able to catch up with Jack Rox and ask him a couple questions regarding his steady rise to the top, inspirations in his life, and new music in the works.

Culture Cartel:

“Hey man thanks for agreeing to talk with us. In your own words, who is Jack Rox?”

Jack Rox:

“I’m a musician from San Bruno, CA. Small town right outside of San Francisco. On the verge of breaking the internet and taking the game over.”

Culture Cartel:

Nice, the Bay is home to a lot of dope artists. How would you describe your music?

Jack Rox:

“I do everything. I can do the aggressive rap shit for the streets, smooth music for the chicks, party anthems, alternative music. Everything. My album “Treading Water” will cover all the bases and show my versatility. Should drop early next year“

Culture Cartel:

“Nice it’s good to see someone able to switch it up when needed. How has growing up in the Bay influenced the music you make as an artist?“

Jack Rox:

“The bay influences everybody that lives here, not just musicians. We have our own way of doing things out here. The whole game has been influenced by the bay. But yea I wouldn’t have it any other way. I like to believe that I wouldn’t be who I am as a person or an artist if I grew up elsewhere.”

Culture Cartel:

“Definitely. The bay is a crazy inspirational place. Do you have anyone in particular you enjoy working with out of the bay?”

Jack Rox:

“I got a few songs and a music video with Berner about to drop. He’s a solid dude, hella humble. I just did a song with Mozzy on a JuneOnnaBeat production. Lil Yee is probably the dopest artist out of the bay right now in my opinion, he’s featured on one of the songs I got with Berner, and we all shot a video to it. I really wana work with philthy Rich and Andre nickatina tho. I will make sure I link up with them soon. But over my whole career I have worked with everybody in the bay at some point.”

Culture Cartel:

Those are all big names from the bay, congrats man. Seems like you’re really out there hustling your sound. Where do you see your music going in the next 5 years?

Jack Rox:

“By 2019 I will be established and paying my bills with music. Mark my words. As soon as I drop my music video with Berner and Lil Yee for our song “Amazing” the ball will start rolling. Then it’s album season.”

Culture Cartel:

“Speaking of which, how was working with both Lil Yee and Berner?“

Jack Rox:

“Both of them are solid. We made a classic record together. And the video is ridiculous. It’s a movie, we had a script for it and everything, it tells a story. It’s honestly gonna break the internet when it drops. Nothing but love and respect for Berner and Yee. We will definitely be working together again in the future.”

Culture Cartel:

“Awesome we’re excited to hear it when it drops. Who directs all your videos?”

Jack Rox:

“I work with several different people but my in-house videographer is Anthony Jacob with Alliance Media Group.”

Culture Cartel:

“Lastly, tell us about what we can expect from Treading Water and why you chose that name for your album?“

Jack Rox:

“What you can expect is a life changing project.  This album will reach a bunch of different audiences because its several different genre’s of music, not just rap. And it’s called Treading Water because that’s how I’ve felt in this rap game my whole career, almost like I’m drowning, struggling to keep my head above water because the game is so wack nowadays. It’s all about internet nonsense and you have to be a nerd and know how to run social media and all that. But I’m still in it to win it.”

Culture Cartel:

“Good stuff man 🤙 We hope to hear it when it finally drops! Thanks for talking with us g.”

Jack Rox:

“Of course brother, it’s all love.”
